14:30 Tour starts and first stop will be People’s Majilis. – The People’s Majilis is the supreme legislative authority in the country and is one of the three principal organs of the state.
14:40 Medhu Ziyaariay (Abdul Barakat Yoosuf Al Barbary Grave) -Is the tomb of the Abdul Barakat Yoosuf Al Barbary, a religious scholar from Morocco who is credited with converting the Maldives to Islam in 10th. May, 1153 AD.
14:50 Hukuru Miskiy (Old Friday Mosque) -This Mosque is famous for its beautiful rooms with intricately carved panels (one in particular, of the XIII century, evokes conversion to Islam). The Mosque was built on a old West oriented temple and this explains its anomalous orientation. Very interesting are the white and blue minaret and the small cemetery with graves of ancient sultans on the West part.
14:55 Muleeage - The Presidential palace, originally built by the Sultan Shamsudden III for his son after the first world war. On May 1936 the Sultan and his son were expelled from the country and the house was declared a government property. The Palace was used as an office by the following governments. When the Maldives became a Republic in 1953, the Mulee-aage became the official President Residence. In 1986 it has been transformed into a Presidential palace and has been modified and adorned for the official functions and to host the Heads of States.
15:05 Jumhooree Binaa (Republic Monument) and Sultan Park -To mark the occasion of the thirtieth Republic day a monument called “Jumhooree Binaa” (Republic Monument) was built. This is architectural monument, which represents a modified rudder with tiller of a fishing vessel of the Maldives. It is located in front of Sultan Park and down to Islamic Centre and behind the Police Headquarter building
15:15 Islamic Center & Majid Sultan Mohamad Thakurufaanu Al-au’zam (Islamic center and the big Friday Mosque Mohamad Thakurufaanu Al-au’zam) -The most famous palace in Male’, it is a three-level Islamic center opened on November 1984. With his golden dome, it dominates the city of Male’ and can be easily seen from the sea. The big Friday Mosque is the biggest mosque of the Maldives and can host more than 5000 people. Main room of the mosque has panels and doors of carved wood, a special carpet and chandeliers. The Islamic center includes a meeting room and a library.
15:30 Fish Market – In the late afternoons, this is the meeting place for all Maldivian fisher folk, where their day’s catch are traded and sold. There are plenty of different species of fish found there. You will be amazed at the cutting and cleaning corner where this skill is considered an art!
15:40 Fruit and Vegetable Market -The fruits and vegetable market called the Local Market is where the islanders from outer atolls trade their goods. You must not forget to visit this market since there you will find varied type of fruits and vegetables.
15:50 National Museum -Opened on 19th November 1952, the Museum houses a collection of artifacts that include stone objects, royal antiquities, palanquins, ornaments and amour among others, which portray the colorful past of the Maldives, which have been inhabited for over 5000 years. The interiors of the Museum retained from the days of the Sultanate, coral stone sculptures, hand-written Quran, hookahs, traditional log drum are the added attractions. Two of the most important item on display are the oral stone head of Lord Buddha, an 11th century engraved wooden panel from Hukuru Miskiiy.
